Sunset Ride

 snuck in a ride at home at sunset but managed to get in about 45 minutes. (less riding because of photo taking!). Started out fairly terrible... maybe cause I was rushed feeling.. maybe cause I tried funny's maria bit on her (eggbut), maybe both. but above the bit and not in a good way... 

tried.. both of us. did the circles with one quarter of lower gait for transitions. Did the yin yang change of direction... and it got better. did some walk to canters and those were pretty decent considering. after the canters, the trot was better. Finished with a really nice downward from the canter to a lovely trot and a few circles and down centerline. Good girl! Called it quits while we could, plus ran out of daylight too. Will try this bit again before I decide i don't like it. I think I like the baucher better but... maybe only because it makes it easier for me.

Ooof... what an emotional lesson... but I didn't let myself really dwell on it, because... no crying!! There's no crying in horseback riding. Sigh... ha!  I knew she might be lame but... Jacel is so good at "investigations" and working around things that it was worth a try. Like Liz.. maybe we could ride her sound. So... I tacked her up and we headed to the arena. We got on and started walking around and she was a slug. Like... She was not wanting to go. I should have grabbed my whip. Jacel showed up pretty quickly and we were chatting but Lyric was just dragging. I told Jacel that she had been lame and what my thoughts on the matter were. I mentioned that I really didn't think it was foot and thought it was her cervicothoracic area but you know.. who am I to think I'm right and two really smart vets are wrong. Just not my week....

  Sigh... I know, I know... minor inconveniences... first world problems... but GRRRRRRR!!! First, I started my period again, which... I had it a week ago.. at the beach, mind you. Then... I've still only got one horse to ride because Dan is recovering from injections (and lost a shoe this morning) and Funny is missing a shoe. But, that's okay.. I will take Lyric to Ashland and ride with Sharon and then pop over some XC fences and then come home and go to the lake with Mike. I'm making lemonade out of lemons. (But I still had a short pity party).    And it was a really pretty morning. It was a bit overcast but it burned off and it wasn't quite as sweltering and there was a nice breeze. And it was actually slightly cooling, vs just blowing hot humid air on us. So yay for that. We got to Ashland and I talked to Sharon about my tack woes with Dan. We played around a bit with which headstall should go with which bosal and what shirt matches my cinch vs my breastcollar in ho...

Aha moments!

  Today was a good day. It didn't rain! The sun even came out! I cleaned out the tack room (mid tack) part of my trailer so that I could drop the ramp on the side and lead Lyric all the way through. Maybe she won't be as claustrophobic?? I don't know. I'm not sure it did any good. We tried and she was not any better today and maybe even a bit worse again. She did get her front feet on the side ramp but we didn't get any farther than that and I only got her with all four feet in from the back twice and she immediately retreated after one bite of food. Sigh. And then Kelli got here to ride.    Of course right then was when the insurance company chose to call me back. Despite me calling multiple times all morning. BUT... despite the ridiculousness, it sounds like my migraine preventative will be covered. Phew! I've been miserable the last few days with non-stop headaches and migraines every night.
