Sassy but then good
Well, this morning I went out to get Funny for our ride and all three of them were by the arena, watching Jean's crew ride. I gave them all cookies and caught Funny. But then Lyric got all spicy and let out a big buck, IN MY GENERAL DIRECTION! Oh no.... nope... nopity nope. I had been trying to talk to Jean so I excused myself, unclipped the lead from Funny and threw it at Lyric!! No ma'am! Which of course just made her more bouncy so she let out another buck towards me. Okay... this is NOT okay ma'am! So I chased her off a bit. But by then it had dawned on me that Jean's trainer was on the baby horse who is "crazy", So I let it go. And by then, I was able to walk Funny away without any more shenanigans.
After lunch I decided to ride Lyric but I was really tight on time. (or so I thought). I didn't get done eating my lunch until 2:50 and the saddle fitter was coming at 4 pm. So I knew it would be tight. We did a speed groom and I tacked her up and we headed up to the arena. She was so good! Like... yes, the stuff is still there, but.. we had much more consistent energy today, with much more consistent even contact AND overall better left bend. It was lovely. She just came to work from the get go. Our trots were quite nice starting out. She was quite soft in the very beginning tracking left and got a little bit stiffer/tighter as we went. But I was able to simmer myself and then the bend got better again. Yay! I rode with "high hands" today when I needed to and tried hard not to "put her on the bit". But she was. She was very connected today and it felt good. We did some good leg yields, some shoulder in (off the rail!), and worked a tiny bit on our canter transitions.
She was so good that I decided to get out while the getting was good. Plus, I knew that I was being too optimistic about how long it was going to take me to get ready for Nancy. And sure enough I had just enough time to hose her off, wipe down my tack, and turn her out. I tossed hay hoping to bribe the spotties back down too. And then Nancy texted me saying she was going to be about 30 minutes late if that was okay. Sure! I could have ridden a lot longer, but... it was actually a good thing because it's hard for me to stop early. As clearly evidenced that I barely had enough time until she postponed. And quite frankly, she was good and I needed to quit. Had I "Had" more time available, I might have pushed on and then things would have unraveled and it would have been a mess. I'm trying to learn "less is more" in all parts of my life!
