So darn warm!!

Ooof, I thought it was a bit less muggy this morning! I woke up around 7 am but then was so exhausted I decided to go back to bed for an hour or so. This heat and humidity is doing me in. When I fed it was bearable... not nearly so steamy as it has been so I was optimistic. I had plans to ride with friends at 2 pm, so... I decided to ride the girls at home. I figured it would be quicker and give me time to do both. I decided to ride Lyric first because she sweats so much! She has so much body mass... poor girl. Except, I think she probably ended up having the most humid ride of the day, so not sure it did us any good. I feel like Funny had a breeze for her ride. And Dan had some rain and a good breeze. Sorry girly! I tried!

We tacked up and I walked to the arena. Twice.. ha ha.. Somehow I dropped a glove on the way and missed it when we backtracked, so I looked in the trailer... no glove.. So we headed back up and then I found it. Doh. Oh well. We did a little turn on the haunches, working on our left "half pass" manuevering in hand. And then I jogged her for a tiny bit. And then I got on. She got her back, SI joints, and neck shockwaved yesterday so she should have felt pretty good today. Although I also took her off previcox last night because I was afraid I would forget and give it to Dan. Plus, I sort of wanted to see if she still needs it. She's so young to be on it for life.

We had a decent ride. Other than both of us just pouring sweat. I made sure we got our nice slow walk first. And it works. She gets really up and lifted in her back when I really slow it down. It's cool because today... I could really feel the change in her body from "not quite connected and faking it" to... "Ohhhhh, there it is"!. I tried very hard today to only go up in gait when the gait we were in was lovely. So once we got the good walk, we trotted. And it took us a bit to get a good trot, but then we did. I also used sitting trot to help me some. For Funny, it's an aid to slow, to sit, to rock back, and.. it kind of worked with Lyric too. I focused on my body positioning... my elbows being heavy, and then being soft and elastic and keeping my fingers moving so I wasn't hanging. With Lyric I can be a bit more still in my hands, but I definitely have to constantly release the left rein. We both hang on it so bad. But it was much better today.

We got some good canters today and our first left lead canter depart was kind of amazing. And that left lead canter was quite nice! Yahoo. The second attempt wasn't as good but she was also getting tired. But I would say 80% of our canter transitions were great. We also cantered the cavaletti twice, which was fun.

We ended with a nice trot both ways and a nice canter both ways and then a nice halt. Good pony! Now let's go home and hose off and get something to drink!
