Back to it...
Well.... Not sure what today was... good? Bad? same? Both?
I wasn't feeling great this morning after a migraine but got myself motivated finally and went to the arena with Lyric. It was windy but sunny and warm, so I pulled her blanket off so that I could watch her posture and body.
We warmed up with some pillar walking, but focusing on the slight neck shift right and the correction of the right drift. We even jogged some in hand to do that. Then we did some fascial work on that line and I actually got a teeny bit of lift in her back for her tummy tucks! She also gave me some more motion in her lumbosacral joint although she is still a bit scooty with it. So then I had planned on sitting on her because I thought I could direct her better from up top, so I put the bareback pad on. But then I decided that I should lunge her first and let her trot and warm up more before I sat on her. I was thinking the double lunge would be better so that I could keep her nose tipped slightly right, but it didn't work with the bareback pad. So I ended up just clipping the lunge on the right ring on the cavesson and let it roll under her chin when she tracked left. It worked! I actually got some really nice stretching work out of her that direction. Going to the right, she was okay but not quite as soft and reaching. I don't know if it's because I went to the right first or if it's postural or ?? She started out really sluggish but then perked up a bit.
I then hopped on and we did more walk work. She seemed okay and didn't get too stressed. We worked on walking straight and not falling in and having our neck straight but slightly to the right. And we went both directions and did slight counterbend to the left. Then I asked for the trot. She wasn't sure about it at first but once she got going, she was doing pretty good. She got soft and stretchy and I feel like she was much less braced than she can be under saddle. So yay for that. We did a little bit and changed direction and did a little bit more and then when we got a nice stretch of soft and stretching down, we got a nice downward transition and I hopped off! Good girl!
I was kinda proud and excited. And she even lifted her back again (ever so slightly) for tummy tucks and we did a few more stretches and then I turned her back out. She walked over to the auto waterer and took a big long drink. Phew. Except, then she immediately spun and rested the right side of her belly on it. Sigh... darnit! I'm not sure if it's because she didn't get her previcox for two days (was trying to see if I could wean her off) or because I rode, or because she has ulcers or because, because, because I have no idea!
