Osphos and rehab day 1

 Today was supposed to be a day off... I tried to take Thursday and Friday off for my birthday. But.. ended up adding two in the morning today.. and then had to add Kelli. And then had to get feed. And it was raining all day so it was okay. Just... everything took longer than it should have. But I did manage to get home and get the truck hitched back up. 

I put Lyric in the washrack to do her osphos in case she tried to bite. She was good! I don't think she liked it but she didn't react much more than with her adequan. So then I decided that since I had time and the rain had stopped I would take her in the roundpen and walk some poles. Especially since the osphos can make them a little fussy for 30 minutes. I went ahead and did her massage gun thing on her back for 10 minutes first. She was sort of enjoying it and sort of unhappy. Which... is probaby mostly from the massage gun... I was hoping she'd like it better today after her shockwave Tuesday. 

Then we headed to the roundpen and did 20 minutes of walking the v poles and the two half raised cavalettis. We also did some pillar work. And then we trotted a little bit. I tried to get her to trot by trotting myself and it worked! But she didn't piaffe ;) Ha! I saw a cool video on my phone about how if you don't chase/push/force/etc on the lunge, the horse can use his muscles instead of brace/force the muscles and then they become springs and coil and you get that elastic movement. So.. yeah.. not so much. But she did pick up the trot and was moving more freely so.. there's that! Granted I am so unfit I couldn't jog very long so we didn't do a ton. Plus... I wanted to focus on a happy back so we got some nice soft trot and some nice up and down transitions and then we walked the poles twice more and called it. 

She is in heat too though because her and Funny have been staring at Jean's horses all day. And she was cranky after we lunged and went towards Funny and bit at her and then turned and back up to kick at her half heartedly. Or.. maybe she's a little crampy too still. She was pawing like she wanted to roll so I brought her in. No need to get wet and muddy before I reblanket you! 

Once I got her in her stall and started dinner she seemed fine, so yay! I do think she is either a bit sore today from life, maybe the shockwave, maybe the osphos, maybe the lack of previcox, and also probably coming into heat and thus irritable in general. So.. we'll see. I doubt she (or anyone) will get worked until mid week next week with all this rain and then freeze coming our way. So she will get another shockwave to help and be back on her previcox before I do much of anything else most likely.

  Sigh... I want to cry. I did cry. Sigh... my poor beautiful girl.  We had the saddle fitter come today to assess the disaster dressage saddle. It's not the original fitter but someone she recommended who was traveling past us to go to her other clients. So yay! Maybe I can finally decide one way or another with this saddle. But nope...  Since she was coming I had her check the other saddles and horses too. And Kelli came and brought Marvin. She looked at Lyric and thought that the dressage saddle fit her pretty decently, it just needed flocking because the wool was completely squashed and not much in there. She was going to flock it and have me ride in it but then I mentioned that I was also using it on Funny and wanted her to check it on her first. She did mention she wanted me to try riding her in it to see it. I told her about the rehab stuff and lameness but then honestly, I sort of thought it might be worth seeing how she felt, especially given the vet visit tomorr...

Tomorrow is another day

  And today was a better day. I still was sad and even cried this morning, mostly because of hormones. But... Dr. DeClue called me as I was pulling into Barrows for my vet appt. She told me not to worry about working up the lameness, but to hold steady. She said that the shockwave changes how things feel and that's probably why she looked worse yesterday. And she said that she needed her neck facets done. And then I was like "Can I bring her to you again?" and she said yes. Phew. So, she'll send me dates soon. So that helped. Just... stay the course Holly. And then I adore Dr. Barrow too. I basically told her the whole story and she listened and didn't blow me off. She didn't dismiss anything and she was smart and had good ideas! We checked her front feet with hoof testers and she was negative so she didn't think it was her feet. Ever the Optimist

Thank You God for sunshine, smiles, and hope restored! Worked Lyric today. Did pillars and turn on haunches and forehand in arena. She's a pro now. Then lunged over trot poles. She is terrible at them! Either... just a complete clutz with no clue, or neurologic. Tripped and scrambled and rolled her ankle. But then also fine when she hits it just right.  Then lunged the second set of 5 minutes in the pasture. Lazy. But then second direction she took off and got loose and galloped back to the others. Let me catch her easily and we went back to lunging. She tried to squirt off again but I held her and she clipped her coronary band on her left hind... held it up in the air for a bit. But then sound... just stung herself. Well, more than stung... she sliced it pretty good and it bled a fair amount. But stayed sound.  Went back to arena and made reins with the leadrope and hopped on. A bit nervous but not too bad and no rooting or lip thing. Walked around and gave her a few cookies....
