3 for 3!
I got to ride all 3 ponies today! Yay!
I rode Lyric at home because she's going to do a lesson tomorrow and I figured I could do a hack before or after too. She snacked a good bit on that good grass between the pasture and the trailer. I tacked her up and we walked up to the arena. We did our pillar and thoracic sling work and then I lunged her to stretch her out. She was pretty good, although she wants to be lazy on the lunge again. But at least she's moving... it's more just a western jog than a navicular shuffle. :) But she is much easier to get moving than before. She takes a minute to warm up but then she was nicely loose in her neck and lifting her back. She had her "core line" working. We didn't do a ton because she was good and settled and I didn't want to wear her out.
I got on and we walked a bit. Then we went to work. I'm focusing on keeping her neck soft and neutral or lower and her back lifted. She was pretty darn good today. For the most part, I didn't have to convince her to go there, she just stayed there. At the very end, she was getting tired and she started to brace and invert a bit, but... we finished on a good note. We did some cantering too and she stayed pretty round. And... we saw bunnies! 3 Stuart's chomping on grass. :) I guess I need more bunny names.
We walked back to the barn in the pasture and she stopped and peed and then munched on a bunch of grass. Okay... I wanted to reinforce that me being on her back was a good thing. And encourage the head down posture. She was sweaty so she got rinsed, more grass and cookies, and then I turned her back out. :) Good girl! We'll see what Kelly's take is tomorrow at our lesson! YAY!!!Her and Flecky were sleeping in this morning. :)
