Grateful!!! Thankful!!! Blessed!!!!
Thank you God... thank you for hearing my prayers and answering them!
Lyric was SOUND today!!! On Sunday it was such a gross and icky day but I wanted to work with the ponies so I did some in hand work with Dan and Lyric. After Lyric and I did our pillar work, we played with some leg yields in hand. And then I put her on the lunge to see how she looked. And... she actually looked pretty sound. Hmmm.... Interesting.
So, today... I had time and it was gorgeous out! I figured, let's try! I groomed her and tacked her up and we headed to the arena. I did lunge her first and she looked pretty sound. She was still a bit short strided and not tracking up, but to be honest, she kind of always lunges like that. So after a few laps and no lameness, I hopped on. We warmed up a good bit at the walk and she was still wanting to be a bit hollow. And still a bit sluggish but at least I didn't have to kick for every stride. So then we trotted. And she was sound! Like... sound enough that I could do a whole ride. I kept it short. We trotted both ways and did lots of swooping figure 8's. We worked on inside leg to outside rein but she was a bit more braced than I would have liked. But we got some good moments and even got a good bit of stretchy trot, which she seemed to really enjoy. Then I cantered, because... I wanted to see. And she was happy and cantered fine. The left lead had a few bucks in there but nothing major. And then she was still sound! Yay! We finished up with trying to get some nice over her back trot work and we had to eeek it out but we did. She did start to act the teeniest bit sore at the very end, but if I could get her to soften in her jaw and neck base, it went away. I didn't want to push it so we called it quits and we hacked back to the barn. Oh, I did make her go up the hill at the end of the arena once though, because she did drop out behind a few times when we first started.
So, I guess I'll see what happens with Patrick on Thursday... if he finds something that could easily explain the foot pain, great! If not, I guess I'll see how she does Sat and Sun before I cancel her vet appt. And hopefully she'll be great and we can do a lesson Monday even!
