Lunge Day
You know... I just didn't have it in me today. I knew I had to take the heathens to the vet and I knew we had to leave at 10:45/11. I knew I could have gotten up and ridden. But... I was tired. Bone tired. Like... laid in bed and felt like my body was lead tired. So I slept in a bit. And then I did a few little things to catch up on life... just a load of dishes and folded laundry. And then I had to hitch the trailer and pack hay bags and make sure I had the ponie's vet records. And then... It was 9:45. I figured it wasn't worth trying to put on breeches and getting hot and sweaty (er... I was already hot and sweaty as it was). I'm sooooo sick of being hot and sweaty. So... we lunged.
Luckily they were already up at the hay feeder, so I just grabbed a halter and cookies and caught her. We went to the arena without any grooming. Sorry chick. We did a few laps of pillar walking and then did our lunge. She started out a bit lazy and while she was tracking up at the walk, not so much at the trot. I encouraged her on and she did get better. She stayed nice and soft and loose in her neck. She was using herself nicely in her shape and there was no tension or inverting. BUT... maybe, just maybe, she seemed to be landing heavy on her right front. There was maybe a subtle head nod/bob but I couldn't tell if it was just her nodding in time because she was loose or ... guarding. The other way it wasn't as obvious, so.. maybe there is something little there. ?? I really hope not. I toyed with throwing her in the trailer to the vet instead of Funny, but... I really wanted to go XC schooling Saturday. And maybe I'm imagining things.
I asked her to canter and she was so lazy. She did, but she didn't want to hold it. And I had to ask a few times to get her to pick it up. Both directions. But fair enough. It's HOT and miserable and stuffy and humid and just.... awful today. So we got a circle or so and then got some more trot. We ended with a few trot to walk to trot transitions and they were nice, so we quit with that. I took her down to give her a rinse and the heathens went blasting off to the dog arena. BUT... she was really good and despite looking and wanting to go join them, she was pretty chill and then even relaxed for her rinse. Good pony!
