Back at it

Today was a good day! I got up at 5:30 am to be ready to ride in a lesson at 7:30 at Ashland to try to beat the heat. Sadly Jacel had to cancel but since I was about to load up I figured I might as well go ride. I met Laura (as we were supposed to have a lesson together anyways) and Smarty and we had a good ride regardless. But it was still freakin' hot! Poor Lyric was damp all over. Me too! It's just so humid!

Anyways... It took me about 10 minutes to get Lyric on the trailer this morning. Um... .ma'am! The trailer is in the correct spot! Remember our deal?! She did get on after a little bit of encouragement. I'm guessing it'll get better again once we start doing it more again. We got tacked up and then headed up to the arena right as Laura was heading up. We warmed up on the flat and while Lyric felt a bit wonky the first few minutes she settled out of it nicely. Laura said that she looked good. She said she was tracking up and looked sound. So yay! After we warmed up on the flat we popped over a few jumps. Just some small ones. But she was game! She even did the bounce! Granted, it was small, but she did it! I really do wonder if some of her hesitancy before was from sore stifles?? We even did a few slightly bigger ones (like BN) but I tried hard to keep it low key as we haven't jumped in awhile. Plus, we're maybe going to go XC schooling in Aiken on Thursday so I definitely didn't want to push it.

After that Laura and I went on a hack. The bugs weren't really out! Must be too hot for them too. Ha! Lyric did go into the lake and splash a tiny bit so yay! We had a hard time keeping up with Smarty but we had a nice trail ride. Then a nice hose off and she loaded up pretty quickly to go home. Good girl!

We were home by 9 am but it was still so hot. I'm so excited about the "cold front" we have coming in at the end of the week. Highs in the mid 80's vs highs in the upper 90's!
