Still homeworking, but... also struggling
Lyric got yesterday off because... life. :) So today was Mike day. We took the Super Duke to the mountains and had fun. But we got back in time for me to sneak in a ride, so I opted for Lyric. I promised Dan he would get today off and Lyric needs it more at the moment.
I put the County dressage saddle on her to see and it seemed to fit well. She seemed happy with it. We walked up and did our tiny bit of pillar work and then lunged. When I first asked her to trot she started up like a dragon! Inverted and running! Um... no!! Where did that come from missy!? But she very quickly settled into a good trot and then went to her happy place and put her nose down and got stretchy. Ahhhh, good girl. She even licked and chewed and her eyes went soft. Thank you ma'am! We did both directions and she was good. Then I pushed my luck and asked for a canter. She fast trotted a few circles before she picked it up and she was a bit quick but she settled into a fairly decent canter. I only had her do a few circles and then we went back to trot. She actually went back to her happy trot pretty quickly, so yay! We did a bit more happy trot to make sure she wasn't going to revert back to feral dragon mode because of the canter and then we quit.
I got on and she started so nice in the walk. Then we trotted and it was okay. Not as good as our lesson and maybe not even as good as yesterday. But there were moments. And maybe moments were better than yesterday. So then we cantered and she picked it right up and was pretty good. Then we trotted and she actually trotted a happy trot almost instantaneously. Good girl!!! So then we cantered the other way and the same thing. Except then we walked... for a brain break. And when we started again she was hot and tense. We worked for awhile to get the trot back and we probably got it back quicker but she kept losing it. And then I wanted to canter again but she picked up the wrong lead like 6 times in a row, even when I had changed directions. ugh. I know it's me, but she was so tense and tight I couldn't even really ask for the canter without her running into it as I was preparing. Sigh. So we just gave up and decided to just focus on the trot and get that nice and quiet again. And we did. We finished with a fairly decently long stretch of fairly decent trot. But man... I feel like we still can't really even do an into dressage test. And I don't mean do it well.. I mean, I'm not sure I can make her do the pattern yet. We'll clearly get creamed for no contact, inverted, braced, tense. I feel like we should be farther along by now... I mean, it's been 9 months! 6 months of riding. Sigh. Oh well.
We hacked home via the pasture and met a bunny friend along the way!
