Easy Peasy

Today was a good day. I slept in! I rode Funny. And then I had a lesson with Jacel. I ended up taking Lyric since I'm showing Funny tomorrow.

Jacel has been having a rough go lately so I wanted to do something to cheer her up. But I don't know how she likes her coffee... I know she likes pumpkin spice, but... that's it. Plus, I know she's been dieting and I didn't want to blow her diet. So I decided to just bring her some flowers. Except the hydrangea's were all dried up, so.. I just brought her 3 of my little roses. Doh. Ha ha. It was kind of pitiful. Like the kid bringing his mom a handful of weeds. But, maybe it's the thought that counts.

We tacked up and since Laura couldn't get here today, she rode Smarty with me. Yay! When she was in the barn tacking up Lyric was losing her mind at the trailer. And then she really lost it when Smarty went up to the arena so Jacel could set up some jumps. I guess Lyric is in heat because she was sooooo upset he had gone away from her. And apparently he was being a bit stupid in the arena too. I finally got her tacked up and we headed up there and yep... raging heat! Jacel and I started talking and walking to let them warm up and we ended up having a good 20 minute conversation. Jacel apologized and said that we could get to a lesson but that it was nice to talk. I told her I didn't have anything else to do today so I was fine with chatting as long as she needed. And heck, we could just walk and chat and skip the lesson for all I cared. I just wanted my friend to be okay. We ended up chatting a bit more and then we trotted some. Then we talked some more. Then we cantered and did a bit of jumping. And then we went on a short trail ride and chatted some more. :) It was perfect. And she said that I was exactly what she needed today. So thank you God, because I want to be that friend that does the right thing and says the right things and knows just how to make someone feel better, but quite frankly, I suck at it. I never know what to do or say. So I was grateful that God guided me today to be there for her. She's always there for me, so it was nice to be able to return the favor.

And we had a fun jump school. We did some 3' jumps and at first Lyric was taking the add, but it was atleast mostly out of stride and she was powerful through it. I did jump way ahead of her once, but she still jumped. And the rest of the time, she was jumping nicely out of stride. I had to ride her into the turn with my inside leg pushing her out into a leg yield, but then closing my outside leg and adding energy with the outside leg to keep the momentum through the turn. It works! But only if I add the outside leg.

So yep.. fun day. Lyric and I aren't prepping for anything anyways, so it was just nice to have fun!
