So Much Hope!
Oh what a lovely day!!
It was a perfect Summer Day weather wise. The sun was out, the grass was green, the skies were blue with big fluffy clouds, there was a nice steady breeze, and there was no humidity! I could live with this weather forever!
We met Kelli and Marvin at Ashland and did our warm up with them. Marvin is rehabbing proximal suspensory desmitis so he could only hack for 25 minutes. So we walked to the lake and back. Lyric was motoring!!! She was leaving Marvin in the dust. Which... is such a nice change after "navicular Lyric". So yay! We got to the lake and saw the baby geese, which was lovely, especially because all 3 are still around. And one of them is a big ol' fatty! We hacked back after a very brief splash and then I went to the arena for a little bit of work while Kelli did Marvins PT.
Lyric was a little fussy when we first got into the arena but she settled quickly. We did some leg yielding on the rail and then picked up our trot. Overall she was such a good girl, but the left bend is definitely harder. And she has that wierd twist in her poll again. I tried to keep a firm outside rein, which sort of helped. And then I tried to keep my reins short with a steady contact, which did help. But it also helped when I allowed her the tiniest bit of freedom to stretch forward. I just had to make sure she didn't tip onto her forehand. And she did sometimes. So we regrouped. And then we had moments of lovely again. And then moments of bracing or falling on the forehand. But overall, it's getting better. And the canter... the canter is SOOOOO much better. Good gravy that's a lot of horse to hold together, but she's getting so much less discombobulated feeling! And I'm not having to work as hard to help her stay balanced. Yay! We had a lovely ride and finished with a nice halt.
So then we hacked back out to the cross country field for a little cool down hack. I ended up walking her over the ditch. Which, took her a second the first time but then she was good. Then we trotted into the water. She cracked me up because as she stepped into it, she slapped it with her foot. Ha ha! No hesitation going in, but a big slap as she stepped into it. Then we trotted a circle or two each way. Then we walked out of the water up the bank and then came down the bank into the water! Good girl!
Then we trotted out and through the field and trotted up the up bank. Then I let her have a nice little canter in the field. But a nice controlled balanced canter. And she was lovely. So then we went back to the lake and then hiked back home. We were going to go around the small lake but they had just put a fishing boat in and they were making a lot of noise so we just went back the regular way. Good pony!!!
