Uncle.... UNCLEEEEE!!

 Oh for the love....

Yesterday was a sucky day. I fell off Dan and my back is killing me. I'm pretty sure I tore my quadratus lumborum (not my psoas). I'm still hurting badly today... like couldn't work.. spent all day on the couch. And yesterday... I pretty much did the same after I got home. So much for riding Funny. When I did finally manage to get off the couch I went to go check on the ponies before I hopped in the shower. The temps were dropping and I wanted to toss them more hay.

I got hay tossed and Dan and Funny came up. Lyric wasn't showing up so I called her and finally saw her making her way. It was dark and cold though and I couldn't see anything. She finally got close enough and she was definitely lame!! Like... really really lame. And... maybe neurologic! I managed to get a better view and she was totally dragging her front right foot. What?? How on earth? Her blanket was on right... not twisted or anything. Her shoe was still on correctly. There were no marks.. no blood.. So I watched her for a minute, thinking maybe she just slept on it wrong...  But nope.. she was not normal. And at one point her hind end swayed. Then Dan charged her for her hay and she spun and scrambled and I had to move out to fhe way quick. I wanted to cry. My freakin' back!! I watched a bit more and Lyric was eating but then stopped and was pawing the ground with her left front and making her chewing face. So I called Dr. Barrow. (awkward... hey, can you come fix whatever is happening even though it might be related to her getting injected by another vet, kay thanks". She called me back and we talked briefly but we decided it would be best if she came over.

I managed to get Lyric in her stall and she is definitely legitimately dragging her right front. She did stop to poop and was eating hay, so.. hopefully not colicking. Dr. Barrow was quick and we pulled her blanket off and... no marks. And no marks on her blanket either. Hmmm. She watched her walk and felt like the hind end neuro stuff was more mechanical because her front end wasn't cooperating. She palpated her and felt some heat and pain in the right neck base. So... she was thinking it was a flare from the neck injections causing nerve compression. She didn't think EPM (and me not really either other than... she got a big dose of steroids Friday and was mildly neuro before... AND... as I walked out that night to do bed check I chased the possom off the cat food) but we went ahead and drew blood for EPM titers anyways. She opted to give her Dex Sp and had me give banamine. She said to turn her back out because she felt like that would be better. Phew! She was sweet too and put her blanket back on because my back was not happy. After she left I turned her and Dan back out... tossed a little more hay and wished them well. It's way too cold and I'm hurting way too bad to hang out.

Luckily this morning she was back to her normal gait and her normal self. Thank you God!! I guess it was the neck injection creating the issue... I hope anyways. Because of my back and the weather (We actually got snow!! I mean... ha... flurries, but still!) I only checked her once... but she was still fine at dinner. I gave her banamine orally because she wasn't acting funny. So... about to go check on her again before bed since it's closer to 24 hours now.

But good gravy... enough is enough already! My poor little heart is tired.... so tired...
