Hack Day!
Today was Lyric's turn to go to Ashland, so.. we did. We met Sharon and Baylor this morning. It was humid and soggy but it was a fun ride. We met Caroline and Oliver when we were tacking up and Oliver is so cute. He's at a fun age. I gave him one of my broken dragonflies and one good one to play with and he was excited. Apparently it kept him entertained while Caroline taped off the XC course and she said they even played "the floor is lava". Ha ha. Awww cute! Lyric was a good girl and didn't mind her dragonfly on her head, which was good! Of course she shook off one side of the wings halfway through our ride and then shortly after the other half, so she finished the ride with a big blue worm bobbing around her head. Ha ha. Doh!
It was a fun ride. We had to avoid the beaver bridges, so we decided to do the perimeter trail. Lyric was a bit jumpy and nervous today for some reason. There were ground trolls I guess. ;) And the occasional deer, and then the dogs by the creek behind halfshire were barking, so.. she had to rely on Uncle Baylor today. But she was good and eventually settled. We didn't really do much trotting because it was slippery and wet and she was so jumpy in the beginning. But we did the creek crossing and did the bridges and didn't have any issues. Apparently I have a little bit of ptsd from the other day!
We finished up in the cross country field and I asked Sharon if she minded if we popped over a few. I asked if she wanted to do any trots or canters so she did a little canter each way. I got video of her and then she videoed me and Lyric. Lyric was a bit feral when we started but we popped over a few small fences without any issues. She feels so feral and frantic and all over the place compared the spotties.. it makes me more nervous than it should. So it's nice ot see the video and see that she's not that feral looking. We did a few more jumps and it got much smoother, so yay!
Then we headed back because I had to get home and changed for my chiropractic appointment. She didn't seem back sore after riding her in Funny's jump saddle, but it definitely needed the shims up front because even with them it was sitting very low on her back. And maybe bridging a little bit. So... ugh. Of course, while we were riding, Nancy texted me and told me she sold my saddle. (Lyrics jump saddle). Doh. Which.. it was too tight... although I was half tempted to get Nancy to widen the tree for me because I really did like my position in that saddle. Especially for Lyric. Oh well. I guess this one will have to work for now.
