Scapula Progress on a beautiful day!

Today was gorgeous!! It was soooooo hard to NOT toss Lyric in the trailer and take her to Ashland. I probably would have had I been hitched and thought about even hand-walking her vs riding her. It was just such a gorgeous day. HOT! Like.. I sweated a lot! For the first time in months. Ugh. This does not bode well for Summer. But the clouds were so pretty.. the sky was so pretty. My horses are so pretty! I had lessons with Liz on Dan and Funny, so no one went to Ashland today. Thus the pull was real! But I stayed home and we did our groundwork.

We headed to the arena in just the halter and once I got her in I started with the Logan technique and then did her scapula stretches. She was already moving a bit more after Kim worked on her. But I wanted to keep it up and see if I could get better movement. She still seems to "catch" a bit when watching her lunge. It's definitely harder by yourself but we managed to get two good stretches forward and two good stretches backwards on both forelimbs. So yay! Lots of licking and chewing. Then we did some backing. She's getting good at that! Then I had set up the thicker fence post poles in a stack, so that I made it slightly wider and slightly taller (my attempts at the telephone pole) and we serpentined that. Then I set the ground poles up on both ends, so it was just raised ground poles 4' apart and we trotted that a few times. She did well in the beginning but by the 4th pass she knocked them down and then again on the 5th so we quit. Then we straddled the pole and walked it. She definitely paddles/wings medially with both hind feet, the right hind slightly worse, but... she did correct and wing back out.

Then we jogged a lap or two and then we did two roughly 6 minute trots on the lunge. She was moving better but it does look like her scapula has a slight catch. Which, I wonder if that's elbows or scapula or ? She almost maybe looked the tiniest bit lame... but sooo subtle. So hopefully I'm just imagining it or it's just soreness from the shoulder stretching. She was tracking up a little better, especially when I run with her. It's aggravating that when I run with her she moves out better than when I'm in the center of the lunge circle. Maybe I should have spent that $30 on the lunge whip at tractor supply today. ;)

Overall, good girl though. She was able to soften and stay neutral in her posture today. So I think it was a win. We snuggled a little bit after (although I was apparently poking her in the eye with my hat) and then we did a little tiny photo shoot in the pasture. Good girl! Oh, and I started her on the Succeed paste today. I'm confused though because it says to give 2 the first 15 days, but that's the whole box... which is supposed to be a month long treatment. And she was not a fan and spit most of it out, although she did eat the last bit in her feed. So I think I'll just do once a day. Which is what Tanja recommended for Kelli and what Beth said she did. I'll do a month of once daily tubes and then get her a tub of the granules and do that til it's done (two months I'm hoping) and then call it quits. Beth said her friend works for them and suggested that they respond better to pulse treatment (ie 90 days) when needed vs daily.
