Pillar Pro

Image
So, since my plan is to do RRP (retired racehorse project) with her, we can only have 15 rides before December 1st. And, regardless, she needs some time to decompress and grow up and put on weight and get shoes replaced, etc. So, we'll spend some time doing those things. And treating her for ulcers (Started that day 1). She is barefoot behind at the moment and has regular shoes (well, not race plates but not really regular shoes) up front.  So we are working on her body. She's very downhill and collapsed in her thoracic sling, so... we'll do body work and pillar work! I took her to the roundpen and we started on some pillar work. She was pretty good at it although she's so good at following the lead, it's hard to really tell if she has a connection to contact, as there really isn't much contact. But she's getting the hang of it. Especially because she now likes cookies!   Afterwards I took her for a little walk about. She gets much more nervous away from the

Adjusted!

Lyric is settling in well! She's eating great - even the soaked beet pulp and alfalfa pellets. She also officially has her own stall now and the dogs now have their own pen and new doggy mansion. Today I adjusted her and she was a good girl. She was a little bit jumpy but not bad. I also introduced her to treats and positive reinforcement via clicker training. She's confused about treats, but likes the peppermint ones at least. We also learned about selfies :)                                                                   Seesters!!!

Making friends

Image
She's so sweet and kind. She's like Fleck... an old soul. At least so far. She's been coming up to me and is friendly. She's good with the other horses. And clearly doesn't mind a fly mask. :) But she is not a fan of bugs. ha ha. But she's good for fly spray.

Big Day

This morning I fed everyone and then put Lyric in the cross ties. She did well. I groomed her and picked her feet and she was super. Then I measured her. She didn't care. She's 16.2. Then I turned them all out together. There was a bit of antics and some running. Unfortunately I didn't get it on video as I was either stressing and making sure no one died or helping Mike. But she's a nice mover! Her and Funny seem to be the most at odds of all of them. Surprisingly Fleck and Danny aren't fighting over her. I'm not sure if it's because of Funny or what, but I'm glad.  They all eventually settled and paired off. Fleck and Funny and then Danny and her. Later I took Dan and Funny to Ashland and her and Fleck hung out. When we got home, her and Fleck still hung out, but by dinner she was back with Danny. They were so attached it was almost like one horse. He even came into her stall with her. Luckily she didn't kick or panic. They all went back out togeth

Turn out with Dan

So... this morning everything was all peaceful and calm, so.. I just... turned Dan out with her.  And zero drama! Wow! He literally walked up to her and they sniffed noses and then went to grazing side by side. Within like... 10 seconds. Dang!  They really like each other!

Day two and baby photos

Today was a day to settle for Lyric. Yesterday was a big day, after a big day the day before. So today, she can just chill. She ate breakfast kind of. But she did eat her hay. She was quiet and let me walk her out to the pasture, but she is definitely wanting horsey friends. She called to them.    Once it got hot, I brought her in to the stall and let her and Fleck hang out there. Funny and Danny and I went for a ride. And when we left, Lyric called for us. :) Awwww...  We got home and they got fed dinner. She did eat tonight. Not wet down and without beet pulp, but she ate the soaked hay cubes. And then after dinner we did a few minutes of Pillar 1 work and she gave a slight release! Good girl. I turned her back out and left her with hay.    And then her breeder sent me baby photos. Oh goodness she was so cute! She also comes by her ears naturally. And... she has a spot!!! On her left hip. :)
