Enjoying the day

I couldn't do another arena ride with Lyric. Maybe I should have since we need to work on things, but I just couldn't. So instead... we headed to Ashland.

We had a glorious hack. She was a bit slow at the walk but she was walking in good form with a nice topline. I let her be on the loose rein mostly but we had good form so I didn't worry. We did some trotting and she got a bit more forward with that. And she felt sound, so yay for that! I also let her be on a loose rein for most of it. We even did a little canter in the woods.

After we thoroughly enjoyed a nice long hack in the woods, we headed to the cross country field for a tiny bit of field dressage. She wasn't too bad. She felt more bendy even to the left, but we also had ALLLLLLL the room so it might have just been that our circles were really really big. ;) She did lose her hind end a few times and got a little carried away and "ran away" with me at the trot. She got run away with herself. It was like her legs started rolling... kind of like when you're running downhill fast, and then suddenly.. your body is ahead of your center of gravity so you have to keep pumping your legs to keep up with your body?! That's what she felt like. Doh! But we came to a halt and then backed up and got a nice trot again.

Then we trotted up and down the baby down bank. Then we walked up the middle bank and when we tried to walk down she sort of panicked and said no. So we walked up it again and she still said no to down. So we went down the baby one again and then up the middle and then I did the slowest of trots and she slowly trotted down the middle one. Then we came back and walked it and she was brave, so we did it again. Good girl. Then we went and walked the ditches and then trotted into the water. And then we did the banks at the water. She was braver for those than the dry banks. Ha ha. Oh well. Good girl.

Then we trotted up the hill and walked back to the trailer. Good pony! It was just what we needed. We were both getting a little burned out with arena work.
