Naughty Drunk!!

Somebody was a stereotypical redhead today!! She had her vet appt so I went to catch her and bring her in. She got about halfway in and was mad she was alone so she neighed and reared up and tried to spin. Luckily I was able to hold her and got her back down. Then Dan came galloping up. She decided to stay on the ground after that and we got to the trailer fine. And, shockingly, she loaded right up. I didn't have to get the whip to tap her. I had the whip, but I didn't even have to tap her with it. So good girl!

We got to Dr. Barrow's and I showed her the video and then we watched her go. She said that she definitely looks much better in her back and topline - she had filled out and looked more willing to lift her core and use herself and she was much more willing to go forward. She thought in the video she saw left hind and after watching her go, she still thought left hind. They flexed her and she was positive left hind. So then we took her in and did some diagnostics. She was suspecting hocks and stifles based on her findings. She palpated her back and was thrilled with how much better she was. She did say that the right lower back was a little more reactive, which made sense that she was lame on the left hind. But then she palpated her left stifle and was like... huh... that feels really quite nice. She was a little flinchy in her hock with the churchill but she said she felt like her tendons felt normal. So we ultrasounded her stifle and she still has the hole in the middle patellar ligament but the ligament itself looks beautiful and wonderful. And the rest of her stifle was really quite gorgeous... no arthritic changes, no effusion, no joint spurs,... not even any "sparklies" indicating irritation. Hmm... okay, well, now what?! We had talked earlier about her lumbars so we ended up ultrasounding those. And holy cow her machine is awesome. She was able to see so much! Lyric's tuber sacrales were beautiful and level and symmetric. But her left sacroiliac joint was slightly fuzzy and irrritated caudolaterally... and there was a small spur on L4 facet and L5 and L6 facets were a little angry and the muscles around them were a little angry. On the left side. The right looked pretty decent.

So we talked and decided that I would shockwave the lumbars very focally and we would inject her hocks. So we did that. Except Lyric was naughty and fired a super quick kick with her right hind that was a close call for Dr. Barrow! I didn't blame her one bit when she said "more drugs and a twitch!". She got her really drunk and I held up a front leg and she was fine after that. But then we had to wait a good bit for her drugs to wear off before we could go home. But... do NOT kick the vet!

Oh, and this morning Patrick did their feet and she was okay until her got to her left front. She was tender on her heels and then when he was nailing the medial nails down she reared up! But then she was fine after, so.. we had no idea. I mentioned it to Dr. Barrow and she said she's always kind of been tender on her heels, which is true. But I never got a more specific answer and forgot to ask again. I'm guessing it's just compensatory.

So anyways... once we got home I shockwaved that area and then rinsed her off and out she went. She'll get five days off and then I can put her back to work, so... realistically, because of of my vet conference, i may be able to do a lunge or groundwork on Wednesday but then it'll be Sunday before we do anything again. So... fingers crossed!
