Well... Sound
At least on the lunge... on previcox.
Today I finally had time to get Lyric lunged. We hiked up to the arena and I noticed that she was forging hard core walking. And I think mostly only one foot, but I didn't think to look and figure out which foot. Doh! So, we got to the arena, which was emptied (thanks Anderson and Jean's other intern!) and did a lap or two of pillar work. Then we did some leg yields in hand. Then I put her on the circle and lunged her. She was a bit of a slowpoke. She wants to just putz around like a western pleasure horse. I was able to encourage her to move out a little bit without having to work too hard, but I was definitely working harder than I should have. Although she also really didn't want to do her downwards either. We played with it and I did a few trot walk trot transitions and some trot almost walk trot transitions. And then I got after her a bit and made her move out a little bit more. I didn't notice any lameness either way. And she was mostly soft and relaxed in her neck and topline. But, she definitely was stiffer tracking left. She still wants to counterflex and be a bit more braced.
I tried to get her to canter and she would not. I didn't have the lunge whip, just the driving whip, but even smooching and chasing her with the whip I couldn't get her to canter. She did move out more, but.. no cantering. So... I gave up. She also looked like she had some muscle tension in her shoulders, so I tried to do a tiny bit of massage and stretching. And then I palpated her shoulder bursa's and she's reactive there. So... is it shoulder bursitis? Or am I just grasping for some "thing" that is wrong with her instead of... an overall "brokeness". Or even ECVM creating a whole plethora of brokeness. sigh... I don't know.
I walked her back down to the barn in hopes that Dan would follow as I had to take him to Ashland next to ride with Kelli. She was fine with it.. I had cookies. ;) And.. she either wanted snuggles or knew I had more cookies as she stayed at the gate when I was leaving. Man... she's so sweet and kind. I hope I can get her comfortable enough to do more than walk trail rides. She is fun.
