Still sound!

Sound! But... still a bit fussy.

Today we met Laura after her lesson with Kelly E. Hopefully I can get back to it soon too. And we went for a hack. I did her prehab before our ride... although no poles to walk her over, so I just did some leg yield to the left and then the quicker right turns to engage that left front. Plus, last night I biomechanic taped it. We had a nice hack with Laura and Smartie. Lyric loves him. We just followed along. Smartie is about the only horse that's fast enough to outwalk mine. It was nice to catch up with Laura. I miss my Tuesday jump lessons with her and Julia.

After the hack I took Lyric to the arena to play a little bit and see how she felt. And.. she felt sound. She did lose her hind end a few times... and she did get fussy with connection. But she felt mostly sound. We started out okay and had a decent ride. Not as good as in my lesson, but decent. But then as we went along, she got fussier. I do think I got in my head and got more worried about her head and neck position, because I feel like that creates the back tension. Which means I probably rode too much with my hands, and that is probably why she got fussier and more hollow. But I did realize it and decided to let her stretch. And she was so happy to stretch. So then I decided to ride her in that stretch. I let her all the way to the buckle and then we rode. I walked, trotted, and even cantered her on the buckle. We even did circles and a shallow serpentine at the canter! Wheee. She might just be my bridleless horse! I would have been super tempted to try it had we had an arena fence. So.. maybe next ride at home. Although good gravy I'm gonna need help if she goes to that bronc bucking spree stuff! I'll definietly need my neck strap! I tried to pick her back up a bit after and she got fussy so... I managed to get a slightly increased contact ride with decent work and we quit with that. I then decided that I wanted to take her to the water complex and walk through it for therapy so we headed back out to the XC field. But then I got greedy... like I always do... and we did a tiny bit of trot and canter in the field. And it was actually quite lovely! I don't know if it's because she had to balance herself... because she could be more forward... or because I was in a better mental state or riding with less focus on her head and neck and more on her body... or all of the above.. or something entirely different. But she was a good girl and we got some nice soft work. So then we quit... well, we trotted through the water complex twice and then walked around in it a bit. Her biomechanic tape fell off and was hanging by her knee at that point. ha ha. Whoops. We walked up the baby up bank and then headed back up through the woods. It was a lovely day!
