All of the above (insert videos)
Tuesday!! The best day. And the weather was gorgeous today too.
I lessoned with Lyric first and was able to get to Ashland early enough to do a 40 minute hack before hand. We hit the trails and did a little bit of trotting. We did a fair amount of hills. I did try to take her to the fallen tree log to jump it too but Ashland had already cut it down and moved it over. Darn.
We made our way up to the arena and warmed up. Then we got to jumping. It was a good lesson. We worked on bending lines and swooping turns with changes of direction. We started warming up over a vertical and then we did a two stride. And Lyric was pretty forward and brave. And I only jumped up her neck once. But by golly it was a bad one. Ha ha. Luckily it was over the warm up baby vertical and she jumped it anyways. Doh! Nothing like surfin' on your horses' neck in front of your trainer. But that was the only time I did it! I may have tipped my shoulders a hair other times but not jumping ahead and whole stride early. Progress. ;)
Then we made a little tiny course. More of an extended grid. ha ha. After the two stride, she had us bending line to the oxer on the right, then roll back around to a vertical, then left bending line to the one stride again. She told me to ride her into the outside rein with my inside leg, to engage her inside hind and create balance. But instead, I went into "course mode" and got it done but completely missed the point of the exercise. Ha ha. Doh! But I did get points for not throwing my shoulders at her and waiting and keeping my leg on. So then we did it again and I managed to ride her inside hind into the outside rein better and had better turns, but I forgot to support with my leg so she got a hair sticky over the fences. I need to do ALL OF THE ABOVE!! Ha ha. Not just A... not just B... but A, B, C.... all of the above. Jacel said that I could do it on Lyric right now, because we were both ready. (Maybe not quite so much on Funny just yet).
So we tried again and this time we were successful. And she managed to get some of her changes and the others, I fixed way earlier than when I was "course riding". Because I was riding every stride and not focused on what was next, but focused on getting a nice balanced horse underneath me. It was kind of fun. And helpful for sure. Then we did a slightly different set of jumps and added a square oxer. Lyric was super although both her and I slightly paused at it. BUT... it was a slight mental pause... not a physical pause and then heave over.. and definitely not a pause and quit. She's come such a long way! We played with a few more rounds and then called it quits as she was jumping well and I was actually riding every stride and not just the jumps. Plus a few of them were novice height!
Good pony!
