A teeny bit better

Image
So... interesting.. This morning I gave Lyric two grams of bute because we were supposed to have a lesson. And I debated it... but I also didn't want her to be uncomfortable. Although she also got shockwaved the other night. And I planned to ride in the jump saddle, so a few variables. But... I figured I could tease them back out later if needed.    However, Jacel was running late so she only had time to teach me on one horse today so Funny won. But I decided it was probably worth still hopping on Lyric. So I did. I put the jump saddle on and also took her noseband off. (No specific reason really). The bute should have kicked in by this point as it was about 3 hours after she got it. Although, maybe not quite. Anyways... we headed up to the arena but first we did two laps around the pasture. Then we walked a bit in the arena and then we trotted. Sigh... and she isn't any better really. Still super chompy and rooty. Ugh.    But we kept at it and I tried very ha...

No better.... sigh....

Well damn.... She's had over a week off from her injections. She got injected on Friday... and then I was gone the following Thursday through Sunday... So I tried to ride yesterday. I lunged first because it's been a week and my back is still tenuous. And she was fine, but... looked about the same on the lunge. Not really willing to go forward... putzy. I could push her and she moved out a little more willingly than previously but... still fairly putzy. And her canter was pretty awful... very heavy on the forehand.  So... I was planning on taking Funny to Ashland and waiting another day to ride Lyric but then I had to wait on the plumber, so... I ended up just hopping on Lyric. I figured that way I could make sure my back was okay to ride before I took Funny all the way to Ashland. So... we hopped on.    I hand walked her to the arena and then got on. We walked around and it was fine. So then I picked up the trot. And yay! Thank you God I can trot without it hurting...

Uncle.... UNCLEEEEE!!

Oh for the love....  Yesterday was a sucky day. I fell off Dan and my back is killing me. I'm pretty sure I tore my quadratus lumborum (not my psoas). I'm still hurting badly today... like couldn't work.. spent all day on the couch. And yesterday... I pretty much did the same after I got home. So much for riding Funny. When I did finally manage to get off the couch I went to go check on the ponies before I hopped in the shower. The temps were dropping and I wanted to toss them more hay. I got hay tossed and Dan and Funny came up. Lyric wasn't showing up so I called her and finally saw her making her way. It was dark and cold though and I couldn't see anything. She finally got close enough and she was definitely lame!! Like... really really lame. And... maybe neurologic! I managed to get a better view and she was totally dragging her front right foot. What?? How on earth? Her blanket was on right... not twisted or anything. Her shoe was still on correctly. There we...

Vet Visit

Last previcox dose tuesday pm.  vet visit. so good for students. neuro? like she doesn't know where her feet are. but maybe neck? sore neck, sore pelvis. lame left front, worse tracking right. flexions made her worse, but left front got progressively worse as we flexed all the limbs. blocked to left foot (though was suspected that it was going to be neck). rads and us wnl aside from slight thickening of straight sesamoidian ligament. Neck ultrasound showed enthesiophytes at C5 bilaterally and c7 bilaterally, but c7 left was very odd.  plan: inject SI joints, inject c5-t1 bilaterally, and have me shockwave the left front. week off then back to work. can do osphos if no change or not enough for generalized "body bone pain".    Good pony

All of the above (insert videos)

Tuesday!! The best day. And the weather was gorgeous today too.    I lessoned with Lyric first and was able to get to Ashland early enough to do a 40 minute hack before hand. We hit the trails and did a little bit of trotting. We did a fair amount of hills. I did try to take her to the fallen tree log to jump it too but Ashland had already cut it down and moved it over. Darn.    We made our way up to the arena and warmed up. Then we got to jumping. It was a good lesson. We worked on bending lines and swooping turns with changes of direction. We started warming up over a vertical and then we did a two stride. And Lyric was pretty forward and brave. And I only jumped up her neck once. But by golly it was a bad one. Ha ha. Luckily it was over the warm up baby vertical and she jumped it anyways. Doh! Nothing like surfin' on your horses' neck in front of your trainer. But that was the only time I did it! I may have tipped my shoulders a hair other times but not jum...

Still sound!

Sound! But... still a bit fussy.  Today we met Laura after her lesson with Kelly E. Hopefully I can get back to it soon too. And we went for a hack. I did her prehab before our ride... although no poles to walk her over, so I just did some leg yield to the left and then the quicker right turns to engage that left front. Plus, last night I biomechanic taped it. We had a nice hack with Laura and Smartie. Lyric loves him. We just followed along. Smartie is about the only horse that's fast enough to outwalk mine. It was nice to catch up with Laura. I miss my Tuesday jump lessons with her and Julia.    After the hack I took Lyric to the arena to play a little bit and see how she felt. And.. she felt sound. She did lose her hind end a few times... and she did get fussy with connection. But she felt mostly sound. We started out okay and had a decent ride. Not as good as in my lesson, but decent. But then as we went along, she got fussier. I do think I got in my head and g...

Beautiful day for PT

Today was a lovely day. Sunshine, no humidity, occasional breeze, albeit a hair chilly. We ended up sleeping in and then going to Gibbs Garden for date day. Which meant that it was 4 pm when we got home. I could have gone to Ashland but... I decided that it might be better to drag the arena and move the poles down to the roundpen so I could do my rehab on everyone easily. And then hopefully I would have time to rehab both horses. (Dan got skipped today on purpose). So that's what I did. I figured I could go to Ashland with both ponies tomorrow, even though it's supposed to be dreary.  So... after the arena was drug (ahhhh, such a nice feeling!) I put out the barrel and then set the blocks upright for two jumps. But I didn't get as far as setting up a grid. I'll do that tomorrow maybe... besides.. if I take both girls to Ashland tomorrow.. then have lessons at Ashland Tuesday... then have to work Thursday.. I won't get to ride til Friday and that's the vet visi...
