Cross Country Fun

 Rode with Julia and Player and her mom and Ben before Julia leaves Ashland. Sadness. (Will still have our lesson on Tuedsay though).

Got on early and hacked for 30 minutes. Hit the hills. Then warmed up a bit in stadium and did our walk to trot to walk because she lost her hind end hard core once. then went to XC... Julia and her mom were a hair late, so... played in the water complex. walked up and down bank into water and trotted in water. She pawed in it and was sooooo mad at the water... like slapping the tar out of it. ha ha.. she was pummeling it! Then they showed up. we chatted. walked a few logs and then we took turns playing. 

frustrated because lyric felt like she was running away with me and unbalanced, but I think I was just holding her and we were hanging on each other. Then she was either running on her forehand and unbalanced so she was adding. ugh.. but no stops. And I got braver about letting her go and trying to half halt instead of hang... and then softening my hands right at the base. But have to make sure that doesn't let her dump on the forehand. I strung a bunch together because I felt like I needed to get more comfortable with her "gallop". Yeah, on video.. doesn't look like that. But it feels more frantic and less balanced than funny's canter. But we got better and by the end... she was jumping more out of stride and even left when i mvoed my body instead of adding. Yay! But shame on me for not waiting for her. But at least I was supporting and being more assertive than just chunking my shoulders at her. I was more lifting her with my body and seat vs throwing my shoulders at her forelegs. 

finished with some decent jumps. ALMOST was tempted to jump the sharkstooth with her. Most of the jumps looked either too small or too big. ha ha.. no happy mediums really but...we jumped a fair amount of BN fences and maybe... one or two novice ones (but the smaller novice ones). Did the novice combo though. The up bank to the banana. Opted not to do the sharkstooth because she had already jumped a lot and I wasn't 100% confident I wouldn't wimp out and... not gonna open that can of worms today. Especially when we felt pretty good at that point. 

then went to the lake to cool off. Splashed a ton in the lake.. not quite as angry about it as the water complex. Then Julia hopped on her and took her into the lake becore she left ashland because she coudn't take player in (he'd lose a shoe). Lyric was good and splashed with Julia too. Awww yay. Then swapped back and hacked home. good pony!

  Sigh... I want to cry. I did cry. Sigh... my poor beautiful girl.  We had the saddle fitter come today to assess the disaster dressage saddle. It's not the original fitter but someone she recommended who was traveling past us to go to her other clients. So yay! Maybe I can finally decide one way or another with this saddle. But nope...  Since she was coming I had her check the other saddles and horses too. And Kelli came and brought Marvin. She looked at Lyric and thought that the dressage saddle fit her pretty decently, it just needed flocking because the wool was completely squashed and not much in there. She was going to flock it and have me ride in it but then I mentioned that I was also using it on Funny and wanted her to check it on her first. She did mention she wanted me to try riding her in it to see it. I told her about the rehab stuff and lameness but then honestly, I sort of thought it might be worth seeing how she felt, especially given the vet visit tomorr...

Tomorrow is another day

  And today was a better day. I still was sad and even cried this morning, mostly because of hormones. But... Dr. DeClue called me as I was pulling into Barrows for my vet appt. She told me not to worry about working up the lameness, but to hold steady. She said that the shockwave changes how things feel and that's probably why she looked worse yesterday. And she said that she needed her neck facets done. And then I was like "Can I bring her to you again?" and she said yes. Phew. So, she'll send me dates soon. So that helped. Just... stay the course Holly. And then I adore Dr. Barrow too. I basically told her the whole story and she listened and didn't blow me off. She didn't dismiss anything and she was smart and had good ideas! We checked her front feet with hoof testers and she was negative so she didn't think it was her feet. FLYER!

 We took a flyer! Great jump lesson. If I stay upright in my body and shoulders, press my hands into her neck, and keep my elbows moving (or even almost throwing away the reins) she jumps... and doesn't add unless she needs to. And even took a flyer!! And jumped big things!
