Good Girl

Image
Today was supposed to be a flat lesson with Jacel, but her kid was sick so we postponed til Thursday. I ended up just riding her at home because of timing and not wanting to drive to Ashland again.    We walked up to the arena and then I got off and we straddled the pole. She's pretty darn good at it. I was kind of surprised. So then I got on and we rode. She was a pretty good girl. She's definitely sticky in her stifles or something! She lost her hind end hard a few times and mildy a few times. And then in the right lead canter she picked up the cross canter twice and felt scrambly in the transition. (In fact, when I was riding Funny later I found a shoe at that spot... but it wasn't Lyrics.... So I have no idea how it got there! Ha. Guess it was Dan's from awhile ago.. maybe he flung it from the fence???). But she hasn't had previcox for a few days and felt okay otherwise, so... we'll keep seeing how she does off previcox.    We did some transitions and some...

Cross Country Fun

Rode with Julia and Player and her mom and Ben before Julia leaves Ashland. Sadness. (Will still have our lesson on Tuedsay though). Got on early and hacked for 30 minutes. Hit the hills. Then warmed up a bit in stadium and did our walk to trot to walk because she lost her hind end hard core once. then went to XC... Julia and her mom were a hair late, so... played in the water complex. walked up and down bank into water and trotted in water. She pawed in it and was sooooo mad at the water... like slapping the tar out of it. ha ha.. she was pummeling it! Then they showed up. we chatted. walked a few logs and then we took turns playing.  frustrated because lyric felt like she was running away with me and unbalanced, but I think I was just holding her and we were hanging on each other. Then she was either running on her forehand and unbalanced so she was adding. ugh.. but no stops. And I got braver about letting her go and trying to half halt instead of hang... and then softenin...

Hack Day

Hack day with Sharon. Pony Club rally going on... but had a great hack... trotted almost the whole gallop track (Baylor isn't as fit). Finished with a tiny bit of hind end strengthening riding in the parking lot area. A bit of a turd at first because Baylor disappeared behind his trailer. Good gravy. Then he wouldn't let Sharon untack because he wanted to watch Lyric so they were "creepers" and watched from the other side of the truck and trailer in the opening between the two and Lyric settled. Didn't get to do as much as I wanted but... got a few good circles and quit.

more homework

feral in pasture while i lessoned on funny. levitating saddle fit: bliss approved but needed tweaking Rode at home.. just tired... Good girl. lost her hind once... felt like she rolled a toe.... cut her right fetlock with her foot... but otherwise good. Didn't feel neuro.. just weak stifles/catching stifles..  canter much better. leg yield and shoulder in better Good pony photos: 9-25 humid again

SUPER good ride! Rode at home... started out a bit fussy and inverted but resisted the urge to ride her face and rode her body instead. scrambled a little through the alternating trot poles but by the end, nailed them.  by the end of the ride she was round, lifted in her back, and seeking connection! Like.. so much impulsion and energy that she felt like she was kicking her belly. :) At least she FELT GOOD! Hopefully it looked good too, but at this point, I have no idea if I have any clue anymore.  Quit with that short stint of SUPER work. Was tempted to do more to burn it into our brains and muscle memory but was smart and got out before it deteriorated. good pony! Somehow no photos! ha ha. I did even manage to keep that nice trot in the field too.

Good Ride and good uber

Today was a long day! I got up and went and shockwaved one horse down the road. Then I helped the plumber up by the arena and yay, now I have functional spigots so hopefully I can figure out how to water the arena. Then I ran to the tractor place to see if they could help me fix the broken part. Then I made it home in time for the farrier,  who was early (but thank goodness he was). Then I made a sandwich and headed out to Ashland. Except we had to stop for gas. I decided to take Lyric because I was going to meet Kelli and I figured she would be easier to ride and not feel pressure and potentially make me "emotional". And it was a good choice.   We tacked up and headed to the arena because we didn't have much time. Kelli had to go, it was already 3 pm, and plus, they were closing the arena's at 4 pm to prep for the show. So we headed to the arenas and rode. We did a nice long walk warmup and then I put her to work. We did our homework from our lesson with Jacel and ...
