We rode!!!!
Oh yay!! It feels like it's been forever!
I volunteered at the Ashland show this morning.. just from 8:30 to 10:30, which wasn't bad. It was nice and overcast really. Great time to ride, but.. alas. The sun had come out by the time I got home but oh well.
I ended up taking Lyric out to Ashland and we met Kelli and Marvin. We went on a nice hour long trail ride. Lyric was putzy but Marvin always is, so it worked out well. She didn't seem sore.. just... I don't know.. lazy. She hasn't been ridden in forever and other than her lunge the other day, no work as she's been so foot sore. So I was expecting ... I don't know, potentially some antics. But she literally walked lazily on the buckle the entire time. Good girl!
We did finish up at the arenas and since the show was over, I went in and played a bit. She felt pretty good. Weak... and definitely lost the left hind (I believe) hard once. She feels a bit crooked... like she's falling hard to the left but.. I am hoping that it's a straightness and strength issue. It does feel like she's throwing her shoulders one way and her haunches the other, which would fit with a strength/straightness issue. Hopefully not a lameness issue. But it's hard to really say given all the time off she's had. So... I'll probably just see how she does this week.. then I'm gone a week for the cruise, and then will get back to riding when I get home. So I'll do lots of hills and fitness work and then, once she's doing things consistently again, I can see if I need to make a lameness exam or not.
She was good in the arena though. Just crooked and falling in haunches left it felt like. But she did give me some really soft moments and maybe a little lift in her back. She didn't feel quite as crooked based on her ears. She does feel more downhill again lately. Which... I don't know if taking off the wedges behind was the right choice or not. Guess we'll see. I'm sure Patrick will humor me and put the baby wedges back on next cycle if I ask.
Yay! And tomorrow we will have a lesson and then tomorrow afternoon Nancy will come to check that saddle and see what she thinks.
