Thank you God for the respite!

Oh thank you God! It's been so hot lately. I got home yesterday evening and the barn was like an oven! Even with all the fans going. Poor Fleck was puffing and huffing and the others were all dripping sweat too. We were supposed to get a storm last night but we only got lightning. BUT... this morning was actually pleasant!! I mean, pleasant for late June. There was a cloud cover, a nice breeze, and... I was hot and sweated but nothing compared to how miserable it's been! So, even though I had to take care of Fleck and I didn't get up at 6 am and stayed in bed til 7 to try to sleep some more... it was still a nice ride at 8:30 am. Yay!

I put her back in the Bliss but I used the half pad. I debated switching out the gullet plate because Amanda had said she thought I should go wider... but honestly... I was debating going narrower. I put the plates on her and it seemed like the teal one (which is what is in it now) seems like the best fit, but... what do I know? But I didn't want to mess with it at the moment, so.. I just threw the fluffy fake mattes pad on and called it a day. We walked up to the arena and did our pillar work. Then we did some turn on the haunches. She's so good at that! Then we trotted a lap and then I got on.

We had a decent ride. I held the saddle pad strap with my inside hand in the beginning but then I just was cognizant of it and kept it quiet. And there was less "chatter" from her today. She started a little fussy but she finished the ride fairly quiet in her mouth. I focused on riding her barrel and making sure she was listening to my inside leg. And she's not as reactive and noodley as Funny, but she did seem to be a bit more laterally supple today. We basically just focused on that in the walk and trot and then we cantered. No bucking spree, so yay! The canter felt a little four beaty. Hmmm... I did try a very shallow serpentine, which is hard for her. But we made a little bit of progress. We finished with a nice trot again and a fairly supple rib cage.

Then we went for a hack to the lake. A nice easy cool down hack. Except... at Tom's, right across from the lake right before the lake... there were three buzzards. And Lyric was not a fan. We got past them and got almost to the lake and then rather than push her... I had her stand, and then we turned to go back. Unfortunately the buzzards moved and Lyric was NOT happy! She did that alarm snort/blow 3 times... froze... her heart was pounding out of her chest... and I finally convinced her to walk home. She was jiggy but I did get her to settle. Silly... they won't get you!

When we got home I realized she had a nosebleed. So... when your heart rate skyrockets and you alarm snort repeatedly, that'll do it! I untacked and rinsed her off and cleaned her nose.

So yeah... still not sure about the saddle. I do think it's sitting slightly crooked but Amanda warned me it would. I can't tell if she likes it... she doesn't like it.... ?? It's so hard when it's not your tried and true horse... but instead your green bean who hasn't been consistent ever because you've not had her long enough to not be green still and with lameness struggles. So... yeah. I am getting more used to it but still not sure I like it for me. I might try riding in Kelli's saddle in my lesson and see if Kelly Eaton can tell a difference.

Tonight... I caught her doing this... LYRIC!! ha ha... she made me laugh.... but I do think it is toxic.... ???
