Jumped
So... Funny and I got back from Aiken around 3:30 and.. it was SUCH a pretty day... like, the best day ever. It was not humid... warm and sunny with big fluffy white clouds and a nice cool breeze. All the green grass from the rain. It was glorious!!! I was so tempted to go to Ashland but... I didn't have trailer lights or brakes. So I decided to ride at home. I figured I'd hop on Lyric since I did tell Nancy I would try to jump in the saddle to see if it was an option. And... since she pulled her shoes, she didn't get ridden on Thursday so.. it's been a week!
I haltered her and she was not happy about leaving the herd and planted her feet a few times. Grrrr.. that's so aggravating. But we got to the trailer and she got groomed and tacked up. She was fine once she was down there eating hay. I am tired and a little fried so I got on and we hacked up to the arena. Whoops, so much for our pillar warm up and lunging. I did have to get off to put a jump up, but I still just... got back on instead of doing our in hand work. I don't know... I'm just... tired.
I did do lots of walking to warm up though. We did our long leg yields and our leg yields on the rail. Then we trotted. And... she was a lot fussier in the bridle. She was rooting again. But once I got her going forward and using her back better, it settled. She was a bit resistant and making me hang on the rein so I picked up the whip and that helped a lot. She was much more forward then even without me using it and then she was easier to get going more correctly. We trotted the long line of trot poles too and she did better with that. She didn't flail through them hardly at all. She did lose her hind end once or twice in general again. So... she's also going on the "trail and fitness" plan this month. Then... I raised my stirrups up and we cantered. She was good but felt... poppy. Just... a bit like her hind end was going up high... I don't know.. poppy!
I put the phone on the rail and jumped her over the jump 3 times (I think it was three.. maybe 4, but that was it). And she was good. She was quick and a tiny bit anxious but not any worse than she's always been. And she was much more willing to jump out of stride and more forward, without the chip. So yay! And no bucking or naughty behavior on landing. Yay!
We finished with a nice lovely quiet trot and then headed home via the pasture. It really is a beautiful day!!

Then I let her graze the clover while I put my stuff away and pulled out the shockwave. I shockwaved her back again and then hosed her off and turned her out. She looked a bit more inverted and collapsed in her thoracic sling today in her posture. I'm not sure if it's because I slacked and didn't do my pre-ride protocol.... or because she was due for her 2 week later shockwave.... or because that saddle doesn't make her as happy as I thought.... or ??? my imagination???
So... I don't know. I did watch the video and thought she looked forward and reaching out but.. maybe a hair asymmetric... but then I sent it to Anna and she said she thought she looked really good! So I don't know. She's got an appt for Thursday for neck films so... I guess I'll see what happens then before I decide what to do. Dr. DeClue also offered to see her again but I'm not sure I can get back down to Ocala... or if it's worth the drive or if I should just try to inject her again myself. I know Dr. DeClue is way better but.. that's a long drive, time off work, stressed Lyric out...
