Previcox for the win
Lyric and I lunged again today. I should have done her in the pasture but we did the arena because they are all back out in the big field again and... just easier to avoid shenanigans. We did our thoracic sling work and pillar work and then we lunged. She started out more forward but definitely is much more forward and swinging when I jog with her. Which.... I don't think it's the straighter lines... I don't know if it's just encouragement/laziness/racemode engaged?? Even when I swoosh the whip at her, she won't stay in the forward trot on the lunge line, but when I run with her... she stays extended. Weird. But... who knows? Maybe it is the circles vs straighter lines. I am sore though in my thighs so I was only able to do 5 minutes of jogging with her today. Oh.. that's not true... I did drop my phone out of my fanny pack (Ha ha...) so I might have actually ran a bit longer. We also did some leg yielding at the trot in hand too. She's definitely straighter in the leg yield to the left. When we leg yield right, she wants to overbend and throw that right shoulder out. I did notice that she doesn't seem to want to bend left today as well. We practiced at the walk and then at the trot but she definitely wants to pop that right shoulder, overbend, or counterbend when we're tracking left. So.. is it the right shoulder? The foot? The left hind not wanting to carry? I have no idea.
After we did our lunging, I opted to hop on for the cool down walk. We tried to do some shoulder in tracking left in hand but I thought it might be easier with me on top. Pluls I was curious about her pain level with previcox on board. And... she was much better! There was no rooting or fussing when I got on. Granted, I did not have the bridle on... I actually just had the halter and the lead rope which wasn't even long enough to double up, so.. only one "rein". So we sort of walked in circles because she wanted to go back to the gate where Funny was. But we managed to get sorted and I got some decent left bend.
So yeah.. I have no idea... obviously there is a pain component that is improved dramatically with previcox but not with just robaxin. But where? Scapula? Shoulder girdle? Ribs? Feet? Neck? My gut feeling is not the neck. My gut feeling is still the scapula/shoulder girdle from her saddle... and/or elbow... or maybe feet. But I don't know. I suppose it could still be kissing spine... or cervicothoracic junction issues.
I turned her loose and she and Dan cantered off. So... she's even happier and more playful in the field. Oh... and one other thing.. she has developed a deep throaty cough recently. It could be allergies... it could be her weird throat thing... and I also wonder if the weird throat thing (or maybe even dorsal displacement of her palate) is secondary to a neuromuscular disease, like MFM or PSSM2?? Gonna have to go down that rabbit hole too I guess.
