oh... Naughty!!!
Except... kind within it. ;)
I had to work a half day today to make up for the first snow day. Which sucks because it's gorgeous weather and I really wanted to ride. And I could have... except I really wanted to get Dan and Lyric injected. I'm ready to get back to riding Lyric! Which means she has to get injected, so she can get rehabbed, so we can ride! So when I got home at 2ish, I figured I would inject them and then hopefully ride Funny after. I started with Dan and got him done and then it was Lyrics turn.
She let me clean her and scrub her and she sat happily in the wash rack for 15 minutes while she "sterilized". Then I sedated her and did her alchohol rinse and got the last little bit ready. She was pretty schnockered... snoring, ears flopping, head hanging... so I went to start. And she said NOPE! She bucked! And then her tail started whipping. Sigh... so I had to unglove and get a new needle.. alchohol her back again... tie her tail.. top her off with drugs. And tried again. Another big nope. She was bucking and even starting trying to turn around and bite me and tried to kick a few times too. She was kind enough to not get me... she wasn't aiming and wasn't lightning quick (although maybe she was more sedated than she let on and that's what saved me). I tried adding a different sedative.. and then more of it... and nope.. she was no longer sedated and wasn't going to get drunk. I ended up half singing and cajoling her and half yelling at her to stand up and take it and managed to get her kind of injected. I mean.. i think I got about 6 spots each side, but they probably weren't deep enough and I would have liked to do more, especially since she's stringhalty too. Sigh.. I'm grateful that she didn't actually get me though. Especially being on blood thinners!
She was not a happy camper and neither was I! After a bit, I just gave up and ended with what we got. Then I shockwaved her thoracic girdle, which she was quite content for. Then she had to get rinsed off again (thank goodness for hot water). And luckily it's a crazy warm day for January so she was able to be rinsed. She sat under the heat lamp for a bit and then I turned her out. Luckily she didn't roll and after I lunged Funny they got fed. She was still damp but I blanketed her because it was getting a little chilly.
Sigh... I love you mare but you are a wuss! I don't know what I can do to make this go better next time...
