Well poo
Maybe?? Maybe not? I don't even know.
I rode Lyric again today to help me determine if I needed to cancel or keep my vet appointment for Monday. Patrick came and did her feet this morning. We ended up doing 3D frog pads in the fronts. This should provide caudal support and keep her heels from dropping and her frog from prolapsing but also give her a bit of support. We debated between those and pour in pads, but we're a little afraid that the poor in pads would be too much pressure on her soles. But Patrick was able to trim a good bit of toe away on the slightly negative foot and tweaked the angles mediolaterally on the right front to help get her alignment a hair better. Then we kept the McClain pads in the back, and Patrick noted that he felt like her hind feet were making great progress. I agree. She feels much better in the back end overall.
So I was curious to see how she felt after. Plus, I had the time and I've missed riding her, so... we rode! We rode at home as it was about 3:30 and I wanted to ride Funs too. We walked up to the arena and I did a quick lunge each way to try to get video for Dr. DeClue. It's really hard to take video of that! And she was trotting like a western pleasure horse! Although, she tends to trot like that on the lunge, although maybe not quite that bad. So, I just got on. We did some walking and then started trotting. She felt okay. Not great though. And there were some lame trot steps. It was a bit harder today to tell if it was front end or hind end though... And it kind of came and went. So, I carried on. She was rooting a bit too, which always makes her feel lame, but once I got a better connection, it felt better. So... we carried on.
It wasn't a great ride because she was a bit more braced than I wanted and intermittently felt kind of lame. But, again, once we cantered she loosened up and felt more forward. But in the left lead canter she kept wanting to throw her butt in. So... we kept at it a little bit and she kind of worked out it, but then I still felt it every now and then.
So... I don't know what to do now. I don't know if I should keep my vet appt or not. I guess I should. Although I'm not entirely sure if it's front end or that was just secondary to trying to stay off the hind end? Or from her pads? Or the saddle? Sigh... I did end up shockwaving her lumbars and sacroiliac joints and the lumbosacral joint as a ... diagnostic.. maybe? And treatment. I figured that if I shockwaved her there today...and rode Saturday and Sunday and she was better, I could potentially say it's because she was sore in her pelvis. Although I suppose she may just be better anyways because she was better Tuesday. So, maybe not as helpful diagnostically as I was hoping. I figured too that it would be worn off enough by Monday afternoon to not interfere with her vet appt as much. Hopefully. I don't know!
She tried. I felt bad that I wasn't a little bit more accomodating. Now I worry that she's still hurting but powered through because she's a thoroughbred with a good work ethic. She was super chompy the whole ride too. Sigh... but, so was Funny.. So yeah.. I don't know. Sigh...
The fog this morning sums up my feelings about Lyrics (and Dan's to be honest) soundness....
