Gallop day

I know, I know... it was supposed to be a fun canter. But.. she finally channeled her inner race horse and took off! I could hardly even steer. Sorry Lucy!! We might have gone on the hay fields some. Ooopsy! But it might have stretched her out. And she certainly felt fine after. Much more swingy. ;)

We started our ride in the dressage ring, like proper sane riders. She is still not quite right in the beginning, if not actually lame (although better than it has been). She definitely improves quickly although occasionally I still feel it, especially when changing from tracking left to tracking right. And she lost her hind end a few times too. So, shockwaving her LS/SI/lumbars wasn't a cure, but maybe it helped. Maybe it didn't do anything and it's just time? Maybe it's the softer footing at Ashland vs home. Interestingly, she is bending better to the right. Tracking left she still wants to counterbend a bit and is leaning into my leg. But, it did get better and we had some good moments.

After that we went for a long hack. Because we could. She started off a bit short and shuffly, though not Western Pleasure horse shuffly bad. She did loosen up as we carried on. We went down the hill to the creek by the beaver dam and as she crossed the bridge, a buzzard flew up basically right up her backside. She jumped a hair and scrambled and lost her hind end but then just carried on. Like... it didn't even phase her. Which... is a little worrisome. Like... are you neurologic and don't realize you almost fell down? Or are you just not that spooky? But she seemed fine. We saw the armadillo in the big hay field again, just happily doing his thing. So then we did a little trot... partly to help stretch her out and get her moving in front of my leg. Then I decided to go for a canter... didn't Gerd say a long canter will help unlock a stuck back?! Except, it turned into a gallop and then she dropped a gear and galloped!! Wheeeeee!!! That was fun. And she is fast! And like I said... she was marchier and swingier after that. :) So, a pretty fun ride!
