Back in action

 We have an awesome farrier! He showed up yesterday while I was at work and put Lyrics shoe back on. And poured another pour in pad. Yay!

So today, I was tempted to not ride. It was overcast and misty and I am so tired. I honestly wanted a nap. And I had to work on two horses today this afternoon. But, Mike made the comment that it's supposed to rain Wednesday through Saturday and today was the last non-rainy day for a bit, so... I made the effort and rode both girls. At home, which.. isn't as much fun as Ashland but certainly quicker. But I'm glad I did. And the sun came out and the weather was quite nice. 

I rode Lyric first and I got on at the trailer and rode her up to the arena. We did a good bit of walk work to start. We focused on staying straight in her neck and body and then worked on turn on the forehand and turn on the haunches. She's getting good at them. We also walked the poles I had set up. Except, she tripped on a few so they weren't exactly spaced correctly. No worries... I was too lazy to get off and fix them though. ;) 

We trotted some and she felt a hair off. It almost felt like the hind end, but I am assuming it's the front end and she's just a little foot sore from being barefoot. And probably riding her in the scoot boot even as when we finished there was a bunch of sand in it. She wasn't too bad and sort of worked out of it and it was worse tracking right. But we were focusing on getting her into the right rein, so we spent a lot more time working to the left, trying to get her to go into the outside rein. We cantered both ways and she was a little porpoisey! Which I think is because she was sore. Or maybe because she was fresh. I don't know. I didn't do a ton of work, but we did have a decent ride. I did manage to get a bit more connection in the right rein, even though I still had to hold the left one a lot more than I wanted. 

We headed back home and I opted to not go for a spin around the neighborhood because of her foot.

Waaaaahhhhhhhh :( Just when she was getting FUN! Kelli and I had scheduled a vet visit with Dr. Marquez for Dan and Marvin. I decided to have him look at Lyric too as I was worried she was still having some issues. She's been fussier lately again and losing her hind end on occasion. Nothing major, but... she's also never had a real true lameness evaluation done. So.. why not!?  I'm really glad I did. The horses were in all day because it was an all day affair. And Marvin was here too, so that added a little bit to her stress. Maybe stress isn't the right word, but her routine was definitely off! And that makes her nervous. We did Marvin's vet visit first, then Dan, and then it was Lyrics turn.  Dr. Marquez started off with a physical exam and palpating her. He noted how knock kneed she was. I know... I know. Basically he found that she was super sore in her pelvis at the tuber sacrales. And then he found stifle effusion. She was also a bit reactive in her suspensori...

We're back!!

shoes back on. oour in pads up front. mcclain pads in back to help with the angles. Wedges but with frog support. hopefully this will help! Bell boots on all 4. ;)  She was running around after, so... seemed okay rode... felt decent. did inflate and deflate. did some leg yield at the walk. then rode with light contact. A bit stiff bending around my left leg but good girl. good canter departs. tried to keep it short since the new shoes were going to make her use herself differently and didn't want ot make her sore.  short hack home

Poplar!!!

Well... we did it! We got to another horse show. And despite the weather, we actually finished! As opposed to not even starting last time we were at Poplar. (that was the show that we went to warm up for it and she was practically 3 legged lame. She ended up having a pebble stuck in her shoe, but then was still lame... and it was raining... and I had that horrible eye ulcer, so we just went home the next morning).    I was smart and had taken the Friday off so we got to go school and have fun. I rode Dan Friday morning before we left as I had spent a good chunk of Thursday packing and prepping. I gave Lyric a bath since I had warm water, although she wasn't that dirty. Then I loaded her up and we headed out. We made good time and despite the forecast predicting rain ALL day Friday, we got lucky. No rain other than a little bit of drizzle here and there on the way there. We got unloaded and set up and parked and still no rain. And.. it's kind of nice. I can leave a stall chain ...
