Jumpies!
It was soooo chilly this morning. I've been cold all morning. But, the sun was trying to come out. I noticed that Laura was riding at 1, so I invited myself. ;) She was going to play in the jump arena so I told her I might pop over a few with her. And then hack. So, I put on my fleecey breeches and grabbed Lyric and we headed out. It was still super cold when I first pulled up, but once I got her unblanketed and started to groom the sun came out and it got kind of nice! I mean, still chilly but so much better. Nice enough I opted to leave my jacket off.
I got on and hacked up to the gray barn to get Laura and Lisa. We then hacked back to the trailers to drop off my bridle, which Lyric didn't care about dangling off my arm. Then we headed to the jump arena and warmed up. She felt good. Still much harder bending around my left leg. I'm going to need to do some bodywork. The shockwave didn't fix that! But she was good. The jumps were all set pretty low - maybe one or two at BN but mostly tadpole or ameoba I think. There was one grid with some poles and then a small vertical. We trotted over the poles and cantered over them once. Then she still felt good so I decided to pop through the grid. Ha ha.. She's the opposite of Dan. She trotted to the vertical and then trotted the vertical and landed in a trot. Well.. good girl! I did get her to land in a canter (barely) the second time through. So then I popped over a few more fences and she was good. Not great... we didn't get our distances a few times, but... she went. She didn't hesitate. It was more just us being green again. So then Laura did a few more and I decided I wanted to try the bigger two from the other lead. It was a large X and then a stone wall. And... she turned into a racehorse and got all speedy and flat. Doh! Ugh. So we had to keep jumping and it really didn't get any better. Dangit. I also had her dressage bridle in, but still... it was stadium... and they were tiny. We did finally manage to finish with two decent jumps. Laura mentioned she looked tired. Yeah.. I didn't quite mean to jump this much, but.. I was having fun and then I needed to fix it. But we did, so... then we all went for a hack.
We did some hills. Lyric was happy to be in the back. Or the middle. Or the front. Which is a nice treat. We met up with Donna and Christine too, so then suddenly there were 5 horses total. Lyric didn't bat an eye. Phew! This might not have gone as well with Danimal! That's a lot of horses in his bubble. But she was good and kept her spot in the middle. She got a bit close at times as did the others but there was no tail pinning or swishing, ear pinning, or kicking. Definitely would not have been the case with either heathen sibling! So, good thing I was on Lyric today! We hacked behind Halfshire and then headed back to Ashland. I parted ways by the green lake and Lyric was still pretty brave about going off on her own. She stopped once but that was it and then never called or got jiggy. GOOD GIRL!
We headed back to the cross country field and I decided to pop her over a few fences just ... ,because that was my new years resolution. It's not a big deal. It's not a big deal. It's not a big deal. So we did. We trotted an amoeba jump and she was good. She tried to squirt to the right but still jumped it. Then we cantered off and kept cantering and did two other fences. They were both probably tadpole or amoeba... maybe the last one might have been BN but I don't think so. I think my eye has just shrunk. And she did drift hard right on both, but... she cantered up and over without having to look at them first and without the hard stop and prop. GOOD GIRL! Yay! So we quit with that. I'm just trying to make this fun for us. We headed back and I got her some water and sponged her off and then we headed home. It was a fun day. It was nice to play again and do some fun things after drilling dressage and just doing hills and trails lately.
