Sunshine helps everything
Ahhh, sweet sunshine! Today was a lovely day. It started out super chilly with a temp of 29! The ground was still frosty when I had to pull blankets and leave! Eeeks. I left Dan and Lyric in 100 grams and tossed a ton of hay. But I'm glad I did what I did because by 11 am it was warm and almost hot in the sun. The sun was shining and there was no wind, so.. it was quite pleasant. I didn't get home from work until 3 pm and when I went to get them, both of them were a bit warm and just starting to get sweaty under their clothes. Sorry kids!!
I rode Lyric first in case I ran out of time since she didn't get ridden Tuesday and is showing this weekend. She was good! (Maybe it's just the sunshine putting me in a better mood). We did some walk warm up and she was reactive about it but she did move her shoulders and then her haunches. We did a shorter ride and practiced some of the test moves and she was good. We managed to get a good bit of a more balanced horse and rider. I was able to ride her shoulders more effectively today to keep her straight and maybe it's because I was a bit straighter? I also had a bit more of a connection today and focused more on connection in both reins than trying to get an outside rein consistently. So maybe that helped. She did go into the outside rein some, so yay!
When we finished we hacked home via the pasture and I picked up the trot in the field for a little bit. She was being good but then we turned and went the other way and she either slipped or her stifle got hung up, but she was almost 3 legged for a bit. What the heck? I jumped off and she looked like her patella was stuck. I gave her a second and then she was able to straighten her leg out and put it down. She walked off sound and then I jogged her and she was sound, so either she just tweaked it or it caught. I hope anyways.
After dinner I was tossing hay and she was so snuggly. She kept walking up to me and just... hung out. Awww... I scratched her face and chin and hugged her.
