Dragon Girl

 Lyric was spicy today!! :)

We tacked up at the trailer and I rode her up Jeans' driveway to the arena. The flies are out so the other horses stayed in the barn, so Lyric was by herself. Maybe that is why she was a bit spicy? Also, at one point Jean was riding in her pasture and sort of surprised Lyric and she used it to her advantage to scoot, but... it wasn't bad and she had been scooting already before too. Ha! She was just a racy pants today.

And, I'm trying not to be frustrated, but I'm frustrated. She's so downhill again and I can't figure out how to get her to use her back better. Perhaps I just need to stop riding again for a bit. But, gah... Dan's out again... I just want to ride and do things. Sigh... I don't know if I need to ride her more forward into a heavier connection to get her to use her back... but I don't want a heavy connection.. I want a soft connection. Although currently I don't have that either. I know... Patience... patience.... sigh. Anyways... there was some good parts!

She was definitely more tense and speedy today. And she was really leaning onto her front right today, and did not want to bend. Or even get upright. So I was trying my best to balance her so she could be soft and I could give the reins, but with her in racehorse mode and falling in... sadly I didn't feel like I could give the reins as much as I wanted. We did get a few nice moments though. And at one point I kicked her with my left leg to get her to bend left and stop falling in on that side... and she bucked! Ha ha. But then she picked up a very nice left lead canter! Hee hee. Whoops. I brought her back, although I probably shouldn't have. Oh well. I reacted instead of thinking. But we did get our left lead fairly nicely. I started with that side first. I think it's a better plan actually because she starts to anticipate it I think if I canter the easy way first. This way, she doesn't quite realize we're going to canter when I ask so she's not as tense about it. We managed two decent transitions and while one of her canters was more of a hand gallop than a canter, we did manage to get some normal canter too. Then we went right and wow!!! That was the best she's ever cantered!! Like... a real horse canter.. on the bit... soft... using her back... round! It was glorious!

So then we did more trotting and finally got her settled to where I could get at least half a circle of a nice balanced calmer trot. But then I did one more right lead canter because I wanted to make sure Pivo caught it. :) And it was still glorious. Maybe not quite as consistently, but... still way better overall!

Then we got a nice trot and quit. She was starting to root which I think she does when she's stressed and/or tired. I got off and got the pivo and thought about taking her for a hack in the neighborhood to cool down but decided against it. I walked her home and then untacked and then gave her a bath. She's got rainrot all on her bum and I didn't want it getting worse so she got a medicated bath and then I put some medicine on it. Then her coat spray. Then she got her fly boots on, which... horrors!! ha ha. She is not a fan of stuff on her hind legs. And then she got her fly mask and fly spray and then she got to go out! The bugs are horrible all of a sudden.

So yeah... lots of good today and I'm trying to not get in my head too much about all the things I'm not happy with... trying not to feel like I'm failing...
