Another nice ride

Today was supposed to be a lesson with Jacel at the farm, but the weather was tricky so we postponed it to Saturday. Of course that was after I got up at 6:30 am but.. oh well. It was raining at 7:30 am but then it stopped at 7:45 and didn't rain til about 10ish. But that's okay. I figured since I was up, I might as well ride because the weather channel looked like it was going to rain around 11 and then rain all day.

It was raining petals ;) And actual rain too.

So I caught Lyric and we headed to the trailer to groom and tack up. Then I got on at the round pen and we walked up to the arena to go ride. She was super! We did a long walk and worked on our zigzags and shallow serpentines. I think she's starting to get the hang of balancing on all four limbs evenly. Then we picked up to the trot and she was pretty chill and calm too. So then we decided to try a canter today. She was pretty good in the canter, but when we came down to the trot, she was super quick again. I couldn't quite get her to settle without going back to the walk, but that's okay. Once we went to the walk she settled quickly and then I could pick the trot back up and it was pretty chill. We ended up doing 4 canter stints. And again, the second go round she had to walk again, but still! Making progress. We finished with a nice relaxed trot again and then a halt and a reinback.

Then we went for a trail ride in the neighborhood. She was fairly brave til we got to the end of our street. Then she got a bit nervous, but was good and kept going and didn't do any antics. She threatened slightly to spin and bolt or maybe pop up, but never did. We went all the way to the troll tunnel, right at the edge of the lake and then I let her turn and head home. She started to jig but then stopped and was pretty calm the whole way home.

I walked her into the washrack (no issues today) and gave her a rinse. Then I put the "buttbar" on her butt and she walked forward and I rewarded her. Then she hung out while I grabbed grain and then she got to eat second breakfast on the trailer ramp. She volunteered her front feet on it so I let her. And then I moved it up a bit so she could get a little farther up the ramp and she was good about that. When she was done eating, I did ask her to load up but she would only put one foot on. I only asked twice and then rewarded her when the one foot went on and then I turned her out. I definitely think there is some PTSD regarding the trailer and I'm going to have to work really hard to overcome that.

There were about 4 deer playing in the lane. Lyric saw them!
