Still Zoomy

Today was a beautiful day! I grabbed Lyric and brought her to the trailer with her lunch. She walked right on and ate a good bit before she came off. I closed the divider closer to her and we got on and off a few times, while eating a good bit. She let me pat her butt, although that did seem to mostly make her come off, but not towards the end. Then I was even able to walk to the other side of the ramp... walk to the back of the ramp... drop the leadrope.. and she kept eating. We even got the butt bar up AND she loaded! Repeatedly! So yay. We're now loading into the trailer with the chest and butt bar up and only the tack room door open. Although I'm not sure that would matter. So we'll see if we can now get her butt bar up as the next step.

After that I turned her out for a bit while I lunged Funny. Of course they had wandered off to the far corner so I had to go fetch her, but.. she came all the way back with me. And no one came with us. I didn't even really have to drag her though I did have my whip. But I don't think I had to use it. I groomed her and tacked her up. I did put her on the sure foots for a bit, but she wiggled off them pretty quickly. Once we were tacked up we walked up to the arena. And this time I did not have to encourage her. She didn't stop once. So.. it's definitely a herd bound thing, which I figured.

We did our pillar walks and then I got on. She was like "Nope! I remember.... you are an idiot and I'm not doing that again! I do not like walking into the fence lady!". And she was super zoomy and bolting almost. I had to spin her in a few circles because she was just... rowdy! After an exciting warm up... we both settled down and managed to become civilized. I think I was able to "Ski" my hips better and we spent the ride figuring it out. I thought about skiing and about pushing my upper thigh into her withers to get her to turn. And about pushing my right knee forward the whole time. It seemed to work as she got much easier to bend and turn. Sometimes too much. Then going straight got hard again. But I thought about posting forward instead of posting diagonally and that seemed to help. We even cantered both ways and... when I thought about sitting on her outside hind, we even picked up the left lead canter on the first try. Without me having to post on the wrong diagonal or any other funky stuff. And, actually, I think cantering helped. It helped her settle and because I was able to sit a little more, I could focus on swinging my hips better. Which I could then translate into the post.

So yeah... it was a good ride. A bit rowdy but good. :) Then we went for a little hack in the neighborhood. She's getting much braver about it. As long as we don't stretch it too much from the last time. She was pretty calm and on the buckle mostly until we got to where we got last time. I made her go a tad farther and that made her nervous. But she did it. So...we'll eventually do all the things. We just have to do them inches at a time. :) For now at least!

Then she was so sweaty and it was so warm, she got a nice warm water rinse. I should have bathed her with the fungus stuff as she's got rain rot in many spots, but... I wanted to drag the arena before Lexi came for Dan so.. I didn't. Sorry girl!
