I did a thing
So... I accidentally on purpose bought a horse. A racehorse. A chestnut mare. A chestnut thoroughbred mare... with Stormcat bloodlines! Sight unseen. Mostly.
So... I gave in to peer pressure. :) I have been contemplating doing the RRP for years. Ever since I rode that one off the track thoroughbred back at pounds stables in high school. That horse just had power! You could feel it in there but there was no tension, no explosiveness. You asked, you received! But you could feel the potential of the power! It was such a cool feel! So I've always wanted that! But, ... then I got into spotties, so...
But then Dan was on stall rest... and Funny is a baby... and I have friends with thoroughbreds. And they are enablers. It started with "Why don't you just take a lesson on one of Aubrey's TB's?" and progressed to "You could lease one"! to... "Just buy your own!". And.. at first I was like "no... Dan will be back soon". And I don't need three horses to ride... and I don't have time, money, etc. But then, I started thinking.... I mean.. it would be nice for Flecky to have company when Funny and Danny go places. And while i would love for him to make it to 33... it's not likely. And it would be nice to take the pressure off Dan while he's rehabbing and to help me not feel the need to rush Funny if Dan doesn't make a comeback or can't do all the things I'd hoped. And then I started looking... but dang they are getting expensive!
So I told my friends... that I wasn't going to make an effort... that for this to happen, she had to fall into my lap. It had to be easy and affordable. And chestnut. And a mare. And ideally a war horse. And.... finally, a good name! No stupid names for me. And then I saw a gorgeous chestnut mare with a decent name and good bloodlines (as far as I know.. but who are we kidding? I know nothing) but before I could do anything she had a prepurchase scheduled and sold. Like literally that day. And she was way out of my price range anyways. So I figured that the time wasn't right and again... it reiterated my thoughts of "she's gonna have to fall into my lap". it's gotta be EASY!
So then a week or two later I got a phone call from Aubrey. (not a text! A phone call... ). She was going to Kentucky to pick up two thoroughbreds and had room on the trailer to bring a third home. And there happened to be a chestnut mare there... not a war horse, but she raced 7 times and was just slow. And she was cheap. And had good bloodlines. Hmmmm.... hmmmmmm.... and Aubrey would bring her to McDonough and then I could get her from there. And when I sort of hemmed and hawwed... Aubrey then told me if I didn't like her she would sell her for me. I mean.... if that's not falling into my lap and easy... WITH the added benefit of having an out.... what is?! So I was about to say yes and then thought... "crap! What's her name"!? So I asked... and luckily it was a decent name. Winter Music. Okay.. I can live with that! So I pretty much committed but told Aubrey I wanted photos!
Well... she was scheduled to come home in a few weeks and it took about a few weeks to get photos. Ha! I did have the two race photos and then Aubrey sent me the one "unfortunate" weanling photo. And then I started to panic. What have I done?!? What if she's swaybacked still? Ackk! And then Mike pointed out that the dogs would lose their stall, so he said it was okay if I bought them a new big pimp doghouse. Because we would have to move them into the pen and they needed a house. So then I spent the same amount of money on a shed for the dogs as I did to buy the dang horse!
So then about 2 days before Aubrey left, she sent me updated photos. THANK GOODNESS she's not a monster! ha ha. And look at those big ol' ears!!!! YAY!!!!
And that's how I became the proud owner of a Thoroughbred racehorse!
